Methamphetamine

Methamphetamine is a powerful and highly addictive stimulant that affects the central nervous system. It enhances brain and body activity by increasing dopamine and norepinephrine levels. Methamphetamine belongs to the amphetamine family, and while other members are sometimes used to treat obesity and ADHD, meth is almost never used clinically.

Because meth activates several neurotransmitters in the user's brain, a common use symptom is an overwhelming feeling of euphoria, making it extremely addictive. Unfortunately it is equally dangerous - in 2018-2019, more people overdosed on meth in LA County than on any other drug. Dealers also commonly make meth with fentanyl, a highly lethal opioid, making meth consumption extremely dangerous.

Our Efforts

CoPALM combats the prevalence of methamphetamines with prevention education- equipping youth and families with the knowledge and understanding of how methamphetamines work and the harms associated with meth addiction.
