International Overdose Awareness Day ( August 2024)

On August 30th, it was a cool day under the shade as the breeze blew through MacArthur Park. On this day, CoPALM teamed up with the MacArthur Park Community Initiative (MPCI) to host an International Overdose Awareness Day event near the new playground area at MacArthur Park. CoPALM held resource tables with informative activities and prizes. Participants got to learn about the harms of opioid overdose and they were able to write a message to someone they know who is struggling with addiction.

NATIONAL PREVENTION WEEK - VISTA CHARTER MS TOWNHALL (MAY 2024)

In May of 2024, the SPA-4 Coalition went out to Vista Charter Middle School to educate about 50 students on the harms of marijuana,  and alcohol. The students had the opportunity to ask open questions about substance abuse, and discuss topics that are relevent to drug prevention. The agencies within CoPALM set up tables that each addressed an important issue with interactive activities that made those issues tangible to the students. 

CoPALM OPEN HOUSE (FEBRUARY 2024)

CoPALM invited community partners, parents, and the community at large to an open house event that gave the public the opportunity to learn about the issues and harms regarding Alcohol, Cannabis and other drugs.

Tables were laid out to showcase the prevention efforts of partner agencies with resources for interested participants to stay informed.

RISE UP, SPEAK OUT (JUNE 2022)

Rise Up, Speak Out (RUSO) is annual storytelling and art showcase for community members to express themselves creatively. 
Whether it is through art or oral storytelling, rising up and speaking out about what we have been through in our lives can be a powerful statement to let oppressors know: "We are here, and we won't take this."

NATIONAL PREVENTION WEEK COMMUNITY CLEAN UP (MAY 2023)

CoPALM recognized National Prevention Week 2023 by hosting a Cleanup & Resource Fair at MacArthur Park to raise awareness on the importance of substance misuse prevention. 
The community came together with shovels, rakes, and pickers to clean up MacArthur park.

FENTANYL TOWN HALL (ARPIL 2023)

In 2023, CoPALM organized an educational town hall at The Oasis Church in Los Angeles to increase awareness of the fentanyl epidemic which has been responsible for thousands of accidental poisonings and overdoses. The town hall discussed the harms of fentanyl, how to talk to youth about fentanyl and substance use, and a tutorial on how to use Narcan . 

ART IN THE PARK (APRIL 2022)

For Alcohol Awareness Month, CoPALM supported an art night at MacArthur Park. By opening up a space for children and families, CoPALM was able to promote resilience in the family free from alcohol.
